UMMEED
Kalimpong District Police in collaboration with different stakeholders of Kalimpong civil society has launched an initiative to enhance, encourage different aspects of the society and to eradicate some of the ills afflicting us. The vision is to synergise the endeavours of different civil society organisations along with the efforts of Kalimpong Police so as to bring wholesome development to the hills, and engage the society especially the youths holistically.
PAHAL KALIMPONG is the umbrella initiative under which different issue specific programs like Drug Abuse Free Kalimpong, Sports Talent development and Nurturing, Adventure Sports encouragement, Meritorious civil service aspirant promotion program-"Ummeed" are included.
UMMEED program envisages to develop among the adolescent students (15-19 yrs) the curiosity and courage to aspire to serve the country and join civil services through regular orientation by career guidance experts and frequent pep talks with high officials. It also aims to identify meritorious but needy students who have completed their Graduation studies and provide them subsidized or even Free quality career guidance avenues.
The formative meeting in this regard was undertaken on 30.09.2021, with Principals and Teacher in Charges of different Colleges and high schools of Kalimpong district and other civil society stakeholders.
The present Whatsapp group has been formed with representatives of all the stakeholders concerned for regular interaction and coordination.
As the next step to this collaboration, an interaction program with students will be organised on 22 nd October. DM Kalimpong, SP Kalimpong and other officers will directly interact with selected students at Town Hall and the same will be broadcast to 4-5 other nodes in Gorubathan, Jaldhaka, Pedong etc. where other students gathered can also interact through online (video conferencing) mode.
All educational institutions have been requested to nominate 15 meritorious and aptitudinally inclined students who will participate in the program. A google form has been circulated for the purpose. The filled in forms are requested to be sent to the following email:-
